Ooma Revealed

Mike Pierce, a techie, has started a new website where he dissects the Ooma service. Check out - http://ooma-revealed.info

Whether you just want to understand how Ooma works or if you are trying to evaluate whether you should switch over from your existing phone line system to a Ooma box, this site will give you lots of information

update: site has been taken due to threat of legal action by Ooma. Thanks Mike for the update.

Ooma goes on sale early!

After a less than extraordinarily exciting(!) response from the VOIP enthusiasts, Ooma has opened up to everyone and is taking pre-orders by telephone. Call the number 866.452.6662 to book yours. They are guaranteeing delivery before the September 10th.

Just a reminder, expect all calls within US to be free. All international calls will be at par with any other VOIP provider like Skype, Vonage etc.

Ooma: What do you need, besides $399!

You need the $399 :-)

You need a phone receiver.

You need a broadband internet connection. Its not exactly clear what the minimum internet speed requirements are. But going by the industry standard, a DSL 512kbps line should be good enough

Optionally a landline connection from your big old (crappy) telephone company (that still works) if you are comfortable with e911.

The installation is fairly simple.

You are good to go!

Vonage: Ooma like box

No, a Ooma killer is not on cards yet. But the struggling company Vonage has decided to glamorize the world of routers. Their new device called the VDV21, current in beta testing, is one router you won't need to hide under your desk. The device also includes a LCD display that can be used to troubleshoot service and receive messages from Vonage support.
  • You should be an existing Vonage customer to be eligible to beta test
  • Testers get a $29.99 credit on their Vonage account that can be used towards a free month of service or other Vonage add-ons
  • Completion of testing includes the weekly 5 minute survey from Vonage

$400 now; $600 in 2008

Word is out that while Ooma is available for $400 per box when it is officially launched in September this year, it will cost about $600 next year.

I got a special pre-order offer from Ooma. Darn, I wanted the White Rabbit Offer! Oh well. I'm gonna wait and watch until 31st Dec if the service is worth it!

With $27MM in funding and Ashton Kutcher in the gang, how can they go wrong some tell me. Yeah. Ok.

Who are/were the Ooma White Rabbits

There is the San Antonio White Rabbit and there is the White Rabbit song. Why, there is even a White Rabbit in The Matrix part I! And then there is the Ooma White Rabbit.

Ooma White Rabbit are special breeds of people who have been selected to change the world as we know it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Each White Rabbit, receives a complete Ooma system for his or her home, inclusive of the platform devices; an Ooma Hub for his or her central phone line; and an Ooma Scout for each additional active phone extension.

Every White Rabbit, in addition to receiving a complete Ooma system, is provided with three Ooma "pass along chips" to send to friends. The "pass along chips" prompt the recipient to go to http://go.ooma.com to enter the code on the chip and register to receive a free Ooma system.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

people will pay to get the White Rabbit token now, but won't they just pay for anything these days...?
